More Good News for the Game Industry
Game companies report rising earnings rising.
By Li C. Kuo | May 17, 2006

Just yesterday, the NPD reported that game sales were up nearly 16 percent for the month of April. Now more good news is coming from Sega Sammy and Vivendi Games. Today, Sega Sammy posted a net profit of $602.5 million, a jump in profits of 31 percent compared to the $460.5 million posted in 2005. Part of the increase is attributed to Shadow the Hedgehog, which has managed to sell more than 1 million copies since its release.

Vivendi Games posted big increases of its own. The game publisher announced that their first quarter earnings came in at $30 million, a 109 percent increase from last year's first quarter earnings. A big chunk of this is thanks to the one and only World of Warcraft. With two new consoles on the way and all the great-looking games we saw at E3, we could be looking at a pretty decent holiday shopping season at the end of the year.
